A senior couple in upstate New York has defied the odds and proved that people can find love at any age, even during a pandemic.

John Shults and his fiancée, Joy Morrow-Nulton, are both 94 years old and have also been widowed twice.

Due to the pandemic, Shults and Morrow-Nulton spent the majority of last year in a bubble to protect themselves against the virus, CBS News reported.

“She was worth it. It was a pain in the neck, though,” Shults said of maintaining the relationship while socially distancing.

Shults’ son said the two would call each other every day.  “They’d find a way to get together. They did whatever it took.”

Since they were both vaccinated, the two are now able to enjoy dating life through simple everyday pleasures, like long drives and batting balloons around the house.

“She’s richer than I am, just so you know. She bought me a walker,” Shults said. “$159, I think. I told you she had money. She did have it until she bought my walker.”

After asking for Morrow-Nulton’s hand in marriage dozens of time, the bride-to-be finally said yes.

“Finally I said, OK,” she said, adding that she finally accepted the proposal “when we had snow days and I didn’t come up here, I missed him.”

The happy couple plan to get married in the spring.
