CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Active coronavirus cases in West Virginia has fallen below 6,500, according to the state Department of Health and Human Resources.

Officials on Sunday reported 6,436 active cases of the more than 158,000 cases throughout the pandemic.

The daily positive test rate for Sunday was 4.06%.

The department also reported four additional deaths, bringing the total for the pandemic to 2,761; the latest deaths were those of an 81-year-old Wood County male, a 73-year-old Barbour County male, a 65-year-old Cabell County male, and a 59-year-old Marion County female.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports more than 691,000 West Virginians are fully vaccinated, which is 38.6% of West Virginia’s total population.
