LAKE COUNTY, Fla. – Officials in Lake County received more COVID-19 vaccines and began distributing them Wednesday morning, reaching capacity within an hour.

“The second shipment of COVID-19 vaccines and distribution will begin (Wednesday) at 9 a.m.,” officials said in a briefing that was held about 30 minutes before the inoculations were to begin.

By 10 a.m. Lake County Department of Health officials said the vaccine site at the Clermont Arts & Recreation Center had already reached capacity.

The county received 12,600 doses Tuesday afternoon and made the decision to administer 800-1,000 doses Wednesday morning, making the announcement the same morning.

Lake County’s immunizations site is located at the Clermont Arts & Recreation Center. No appointments are needed and the site is open to residents and non-residents.

While no appointment system is in place the county DOH is working on getting software up and running for future doses.

“We hope to establish regular hours of operations and appointments as soon as partner site availability and regular shipments stabilize,” officials added.

Health officials said in regards to vaccine distribution they will evaluate on a day-by-day basis and don’t plan to announce distribution until the day it happens. An announcement will be made through the Lake County DOH website, or on Twitter at @FLHealthLake.

Other key points include:

  • Persons 65+ will need identification
  • Frontline workers with direct patient contact will need to present a copy of their medical license, employee badge or current paystub.
  • Face masks must be worn while waiting in vehicles.
  • No referral needed. No cost. Clients will be asked to complete a registration form prior to receiving the vaccine.
  • Site will continue to operate based on vaccine availability
